Kitui County’s health ministry has started COVID-19 vaccination campaign with frontline health workers as the first group of people to receive the vaccine.
The county received 9000 doses for the first phase of vaccination.
In his address to the media, Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau said the county marked a historic day for the milestone in the fight against covid-19 adding that the Governor Ngilu led administration will continue advocating for the compliance of the set protective measures to minimize and end infections.
On her part, County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation Dr. Winnie Kitetu said the exercise will be extended to other frontline workers among them security officers and other residents in the county onwards.
The vaccine program prioritized the health workers citing their high risk of exposure to COVID-19.
To this end, 787 of the tested citizens in the county have tested positive for the covid-19 with 23 succumbing from the infection.
The first corona virus case was reported in the county on March 30th, 2020.
Kitui has 4 patients for covid-19 two at the County Referral Hospital, one at Mutitu level 4 and 1 at Kauwi Level three facility.
18 asymptomatic patients are receiving home based care.
