Makueni county deputy Governor, Hon Adelina Mwau on Tuesday called upon national government to fully devolve the Agriculture department as it’s a devolved function.
Mwau was speaking during a program for supporting and enhacing services of Agricultural extension officers.
More farmers will now have access to extension services after the County Government flagged off forty six motorcycles and two vehicles for Makueni county under the KCEP-CRAL program by national government.
When flagging off the motorcycles, Makueni DG urged the Sub County and Ward Agricultural officers to go beyond their call of duty to support the National and County agendas to push for food productivity.
“National government should release all funds and programs to County government since it’s a devolved function.” said Mwau.
County CECM for Agriculture, Nzyoki king’ola called upon the officers to have more focus on mango production and educate farmers on pesticides to use.
“our county produces the best mangoes alongside Kitui and Machakos, therefore extension officers should equip our farmers with knowledge.” King’ola said.
