Kitui county will be the manufacturing model County, Governor Charity Ngilu has said.
Speaking at the commissioning of tomato and fruit processing plants at the Kitui Agriculture Training Center, Governor Ngilu reiterated her call for Counties to move into manufacturing, increase own-source revenue, create employment, add value to locally available products reaping maximum benefits from them.
The food processing plant seeks to add value to products from Mianda irrigation such as tomatoes and fruits and salvage the surplus products from going to waste.
Final products among them Tomato sauce, paste, Mango, and Orange purees, will have a shelf life of two years and fully organic without any additives or preservatives.
The Governor further called on leaders to initiate projects and programs that will have an economic impact in their counties, saying that manufacturing is the only way to kick out poverty in our country and create employment for out young people.
