Athi residents plead with government to donate relief food

Imathoka residents in Athi ward, Kitui County have pleaded with the government through their local leaders to donate relief food to them.

They say hunger has stricken the area following minimal rains experienced in the last season.

The elderly who are the most affected said they risk losing their lives due to hunger.

Agnes Kasyoka, a resident said they have experienced rain shortages for the last two years, the high cost of living is unbearable as a kilo of maize is retailing at KES 35 – 40.

Head of state, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, 8th September 2021, declared the drought affecting parts of the country a national disaster.
