Kitui County residents up in arms over road destruction by sand barons

A section of Kitui west residents are appealing to the government to impose a high penalty on motorists who overload their vehicles, damaging the newly-constructed roads in the county by Kitui West CDF, Kwa vonza – Katutu road.

The locals want the involved authorities to control the high number of sand harvesting lorries that are damaging the new inter-county road that connects Kitui Rural and Kitui West.

Hundreds of lorries that fetch sand from the Tiva River are now plying the newly completed murram road.

The lorries have become the biggest challenge to the development in the area forcing the leaders to think of using taxes to do a double job following damages within the road.
